Who is Lindsay Smith?
History
Lindsay was born and raised in Oshawa and has lived in the area his entire life. After completing business school, Lindsay was involved in an accident that kept him off his feet for almost a year. During that time he met a Realtor at a wedding and decided to pursue a career in Real Estate.
Lindsay started his career in 1985 and within 3 years was recognized as one of the top Realtors on the Oshawa Real Estate Board (now called the Durham Real Estate Board). During the real estate boom in the late 1980’s, he quickly learned how to deal with an uprising market. Then, with the subsequent fall in the economy, he used the skills he acquired in the boom to work with clients in a more challenging market.
I n 1994 Lindsay, together with a partner, bought a Re/max office, Remax Reflection. They sold the franchise in 1999. Lindsay managed the office during this time but he also continued to sell homes. This experience furthered his ability to work with people and run a business effectively.
In 1999 Lindsay returned to straight Real Estate sales. He continued to increase the number of clients he worked with. He credits his increase in client base to his approach to his work. He has honed an “advisory” or “consultative” approach to sales, as opposed to the “fast-moving salesperson” approach.
Lindsay has one son, Cullen, an active, bright and charming 13- year- old boy who has acquired the real estate knowledge that would rival that of a seasoned agent!!
Business
Lindsay learned early in his career that a successful Real Estate agent means not only providing 110% service to his clients but also spending time working on improving his business and the service he provides to his clients. To that end, he has traveled extensively to workshops and seminars to keep his skills up to date. The business world is constantly changing. Being in a position to offer marketing strategies and creative programs designed to buy or sell homes more quickly and cost effectively requires an effective agent to be continually learning, creating, innovating, and implementing new ideas.
Since joining Re/max Lindsay has been recognized as a Platinum club member over 12 times, been on the list of top 100 agents in Canada, obtained his Hall of Fame and Lifetime Achievement awards, been a speaker both internationally and in Canada, and was recently a panelist on a TV special with Howard Brinton, a top Trainer in the United States.
Hobbies
Lindsay has several passions, gourmet cooking, yoga and cycling ranking as the top three. Having been raised in a family with a caterer and a French- trained chef he has propelled this love into a unique fundraising activity for a number of non-profit organizations both locally and in Toronto. For example, he has raised over $5,000 for his son’s school through a series of dinners and cooking courses.
Lindsay began cycling about 15 years ago and has raced mountain bikes throughout Ontario. He began practicing yoga to alleviate the soreness that came from cycling, but it has become a passion of its own. Lindsay’s fondest yoga memory is of him completing a yoga session on a dock at a lakefront home in northern Wisconsin.
Volunteer Work
In addition to raising money for worthy causes, Lindsay is a member of the Board of Directors of the Oshawa Community HealthCentre , which provides a variety of clinical, health and health-related services for the residents of Oshawa.
